Uniki is the name used by the artist Wasu Sazile Kama, born in South Africa in Qwanduli, Eastern Cape. Wasu started making wire Art as a passtime, with his friends, while pasturing animals in the fields. They would make their own toys out of scrap and wire they found, copying vintage cars from car calendars. Wasu's skill always stood out from his friends, experimenting with different materials. He moved to Gugaletu in the Cape in 1999, becoming one of the first few serious wire artists in the area. Now he lives in Cape Town, selling his work on a street stall and developing his original style.
