Samson Jani was born in 1973 in Pretoria, South Africa from a South African Mother and Zimbabwean father.
He moved to Zimbabwe, shortly after his birth to get away from the apartheid regime. He grew up in Harare, but went back to South Africa with his mother in 1988.

Sam started making art in 1995 in Pretoria. He was doing panel beating, but the company went bankrupt, but his boss, Harry van de Bale, saw that he had a skill in working with metal, and suggested that he started making Art. Samson saw that this could be a way for him to support his family back in Zimbabwe.

Sam now works with recycled metal sheets, sculpting it into figures and animals in his unique style. He also works with clay, carving and casting metal. He is completely self-taught, and has never been to school to learn his skill.
