Masimba Jeff Mwazha
Masimba Jeff Mwazha started to make wire art at 7 years old, making toys for himself and siblings. Originally from Harare in Zimbabwe, Mwazha moved to South africa in 1998, first selling his work on the streetside, but soon became known in the art world for wire portrait sculptures of Nelson Mandela. Mwazha has worked as the lead artist of a social organization Streetwires. He was done many commissions and exhibitions throughout South Africa, winning several awards.
His work includes portrait sculptures, sometimes larger than life, from chicken wire and recently has developed a new style, using recycled fencing wire, chaotically twisted into perfectly formed animals. With a seemingly effortless ability to achieve likenesses, one is amazed at the expert way in which he manipulates wire, an unforgiving medium in less skillful hands.
