The Himba are a tribe of nomadic
people who inhabit the Kaokoland area of Namibia. They wear bangles made
from decorated PVC piping as part of their traditional dress.
The origion of this tradition stems from the materials resemblance to
ivory, which was used in former times when elephants roamed Namibia in
Large numbers.
These bangels are made by a project organised by the Arts Trust.
